Save the Children's Eyes Interim Report

Motion 2-03 - April 5, 2003 brought to a conclusion the first phase of the "Save the Children's Eyes" Program in Nakhon Phanom Province. Omnimed provided the screening material initial set. A TLCB volunteer provided for duplicating 50 sets of screening materials. Twenty-five sets were provided to the village schools within the city district that TLCB is supporting. School personnel screened approximately 3000 students in grades kindergarten through grade 12. Out of the 3000, about 20 students were identified at this level with problems. These students were referred to Dr Suwat, an Opthomalogist at Nachon Phanom Provincial Hospital. Dr. Suwat performed refraction's on all the students and found 8 of them needed glasses. Glasses were procured through Dr Suwat and delivered to the students on April attached.
On April 11, 2003, John Middlewood, TLCB volunteer, will meet with District health officials to begin screening of all city district village students that are in schools not served by TLCB. Over the next 6 months it is the goal to have screened every village child and provided glasses for those students who need them.
Thank you to TLCB, Omnimed, City District school and health officials and Dr. Suwat at the Provincial Hospital. Working together, we can make a difference....
