The text and library books will be used by two schools in the region; Ban Nahom (Grades 1-3) and Ban Thongkham (Grades 1-5). The desks will go to the Nahom village. Their are approximately 80 students in the Nahom school and the A1-Skyraiders Association has donated enough for 40 desks. I have another donor who has purchased 10 desks so if we had 30 there would be enough for each child. The notebooks are used the same way we would in the states for school work. We will distribute among both schools. Follow Up Report: Funds were adquate to include painting the school and building some playground equipment.

They have asked TLCB to provide the materials to complet the project with their labor to expand the area we already have provided for them. This is one of the poorest schools in the sub-dristict and the only one left that we have not provided with a dining area. The principal admitted that they need the tables present ones are wood, old and falling apart but was afraid to ask for them because of the expense. Note: one school has been dropped - Assamat Elementary School and another school added, Kham Guem Elementary School. Kham Guem is an elementary school we visited about 1 1/2 year ago. At that time there were 45-50 students attending the school, but the principal was not interested in any kind of cooperative program, only if we wanted to give money. Since that time, the principal has been reassigned and one of the teachers came to see me a couple weeks ago. The school presently has about 30 students and is in danger of being closed if something isn't done. The villagers do not want the school closed. It is in the outside edge of the City school district, so receives no funding there. The village is a very poor Catholic village and seems to have no resources of their own. On February 15, 2005 I met with parents of all the students, the village priest, the three teachers, village headman and sub-district leader, as well as other community members. There were about 70 people at the meeting. The meeting lasted for about two hours. The main point is that the villagers do not want their school closed and they are willing to do whatever they can to keep it open. There is evidence, in the last couple of months that since the principal has left, the teachers and students have taken initiative to clean up the school. During the meeting there were a number of requests submitted and some of them are covered in the motion above. Others will be addressed later. I believe this is an opportunity for TLCB to make a great improvement at a particular school site over the next year or two. teachers and staff and it was suggested by them that if possible the
monthly food packages (4 for this school at a cost of 1600 baht) be
changed to use these funds to purchase food to supplement the lunch
program in order to provide a hot lunch for each student. The rate
was pased on 80 baht per day times 20 school days per month to come
up with 1600 baht. This school only has 30-35 students at this time.
I recommend that we try this for a couple of months and see how it
works. To me, feeding 30 kids a hot meal every days is better than
only 4 kids. I understand it would be impossible to do this
with a larger school but in this instance, I think we might
receive a larger benefit for the students at this small school. I move also that 2,600 baht be approved to purchase 4 ceiling fans for Kham Guem Elementary school. Fans needed for classrooms without fans. Villagers will obtain wiring and install the fans. I move also that 3,000 baht be approved to purchase sports equipment for Kham Guem Elementary school. Equipment will involve purchase of soccer balls, volley balls, takraw balls, batmitten sets,relatged nets, and large rubber balls for primary students
